Teachers challenge Nahid



Nurul Islam NahidDHAKA :: shikshak Karmachari Oikya Jote Friday challenged Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid for his comments on the ongoing agitated teachers on Tuesday.

The forum president Selim Bhuiyan made the disclosure from the ongoing movements in front of Jatiya Press Clubof in the city demanding the nationalization of non-government schools, colleges and madrasas in the morning.

Hinting the Education Minister’s commentary he said there is no poetical objectives behind the movements of the teachers, the only demand is the nationalization of their educational institutions.

And there are the people from various ideologies attended our demonstration programme, he said.

Quoting the Education Ministers commentary he further said, I want to urge Minister to prove the political motives behind our movements.

The forum president Selim Bhuiyan also threatened to the government to refrain themselves from performing duties in the upcoming SSC exams.

Earlier, on Wednesday, shikshak Karmachari Oikya Jote threatened to the government to avoid national polls by keeping them away from performing their polls duties.

The forum president Selim Bhuiyan came up with the declaration from the sit-in programme in front of Jatiya Press Clubof in the city demanding the nationalization of non-government schools, colleges and madrasas.

The teachers perform their duties as polling and presiding officer in the national polls and if the demand is not fulfilled we will avoid polls, he said.

Hinting the Education Minister’s commentary he further said, the Minister is giving the fake speech on their demonstration programme.

Announcing solidarity with their demonstration BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed said the quality of education will be increased if the teachers are given their respective honour.

Earlier, on the day Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that the demonstration of non-government schools, colleges and madrasas demanding nationalisation of their jobs is illogical as there are political motives behind it.

He came up with the disclosure while replying a query to the journalists in the Secretariat on Wednesday noon.

I am bound to say that there are the political motives behind their movement demanding the nationalization of their jobs, he said.

The primary level and secondary level are not the same as primary education is compulsory to all, he added.

Addressing the teachers he also said you should not be confused and do not spread illusion to make people confused.

Earlier, on the day traffic movement on the road halted traffic in front of Jatiya Press Club following teacher’s demonstration of non-government schools, colleges and madrasas demanding nationalisation of their jobs from Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said several hundred teachers and staff from across the country started their sit-in programme around 8:30am, disrupting vehicular movement.

Earlier, the government enhanced the financial package for teachers on the MPO list. Now their house rent is Tk 500 from Tk 100.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid disclosed this at a press conference at his office Tuesday.

Nahid added, the medical allowance has been increased from Tk 150 to Tk 300. In addition, the post of assistant librarian is now on MPO.

The Education Minister also announced, the allowance of independent Ibtadaee madrasa teachers has been increased from Tk 500 to Tk 1,000.
